Buggy Construction Tips Using Dune Buggy Plans

!±8± Buggy Construction Tips Using Dune Buggy Plans

So you want to tear up the dunes with your own dune buggy but you're not sure whether to buy a complete turn key buggy or use some dune buggy plans to build your own? Well firstly there are a number of issues you need to address before you decide which route to take.

The main factor that people consider when deciding to buy/build a dune buggy is the cost of the project, how much is it going to cost me if i decide to buy one Vs. build one myself? Now i can't give you an accurate figure for each as it will depend on where you live, how much shipping will cost and how much materials cost in your area if you decide to build one. It will also depend on how skilled you are with metal fabrication, welding etc. If you will have to pay for a shop to fabricate the parts you need you will obviously be paying more in the end compared to someone who can do it all themselves in their own garage/workshop.

But most of the time its cheaper (and more fun!) to build a buggy yourself. For most people this is easily achievable in their own garage or workshop as long as you have some basic tools and machinery or you have access to some, you know things like a welder, tube bender, grinder, drill press, you get the picture. I should mention that you can hire these things too if you want to or just take the specialized tasks to your local engineering shop. Usually when you tell the guys what its for they get pretty interested and will want to know more about your project and up giving you a good price!

I highly recommend NOT designing your own dune buggy from scratch unless you know what you are doing and have experience in design. Be warned that if you do it will usually end in disaster and a half finished bundle of steel sitting in your garage. That said the most important factor in dune buggy construction is which plans to use for construction. If you get this wrong or use the cheapest or plans you can find you will regret it in the end as they rarely turn out how you first imagined. Lets face it you are about to invest quite a bit of money and time into building a dune buggy so make sure you choose quality plans from the start.

Most good quality, proven plans will set you back around 0-0 and will give you good solid information and a step by step procedure to building your buggy. You can get plans for cheaper but usually these are quite basic and you won't get the detail you need to build the buggy properly.

Also make sure the company you are buying the plans from has some kind of support you can call on in case you get stuck and need some advice, this could be as simple as a user form that has members that have constructed their own buggies and are willing to give you advice for free. This is invaluable when building your buggy.

For me personally, building my own dune buggy is one of the most fun and most rewarding projects I have done. From cutting the first piece of steel to firing up the engine for the first time is a fantastic feeling and i definitely recommend to those of you who are considering it.

Not only do we have an extensive selection, but our everyday low prices and 1-year low price guarantee ensure that you get the best deals on Skyjacker accessories right here.

Here are some SkyJacker product and brand reviews that I found on the web:

"Good product. Greatly improved bump steer problems on 1995 Jeep Wrangler with 4" lift and 12.5" x 33" tires"

"I am really pleased with the skyjacker steering stabilizer, It really has helped with keeping my jeep steady and between the lines."

"This is the second pair of skyjacker leaf springs I have ordered, and have yet to be dissappointed. The springs were shipped exceptionally fast. I have used skyjackers in all of my trucks and have had no problems. I will be ordering a third set to finish out my 81 Toyota truck, and it'll be ready for the trails!"

"I was really impressed in the timely manner in which the add-a-leafs where shipped and arrived to me. Installation was a bit tricky. On Chevy Silverados, the gas tank sits in the way of removing the front driver side spring eye bolt. Instead of taking the leafsprings out I had to drop the axel. Make sure you disconnect the brake line brackets so you have enough room to lift the frame up. I also found it easy to reinstall the springs by putting tape around the leafs before lifting them up to join them the spring with the eye bolts. C clamps are a must. Over all it is a pretty simple installation. The add-a-leaf is exactly what I was looking for to get rid of the sagging in the rear end."

"I am very satisfied with both the appearance and performance of these springs. I added 1.5 inch lift to the rear and 2 inches to the front and it looks and drives "right on"."

"I ordered the skyjacker add a leafs for my 2001 dodge ram 1500 to raise the rear 2 inches. It did what I wanted and didn't stiffen up my springs that much. Im very happy with them and would use them on other vehicles too, Thanks."

ATV Tires

!±8± ATV Tires

The tires of the ATV are among the most important parts. Basically, all-terrain tires are made for proper performance for both on- and off-road purposes. This is accomplished by using a tread pattern design where the lugs are tighter together than a mud tire's tread. They perform well on a variety of terrains, like rocks, sand and mud, while still offering decent traction on a paved road.

Depending on the tires, one can use the ATV for various purposes. Since the ATV is designed for off-road use, such as on sand, gravel, mud or snow, much depends on the type of tires one uses in an ATV.

When first launched in 1981, the ATVs had balloon tires. Today, a general ATV tire is heavy, with deep treads and a low pressure (less than 10 pounds per square inch [PSI]). This helps the tires get a better grip on the road, and therefore helps in navigating terrain like forests and wetlands.

A tire is made out of belts, a carcass and the inner lining. The belts are a series of rubber-coated layers of steel, polyester, nylon or Kevlar. The carcass is the main body of the tire, which is made out of wire beads and body plies. The inner liner is a special layer of compounded rubber, forming the inside of a tubeless tire.

There are two basic types of tire construction: bias-ply and radial designs. Bias-ply tires are made of textile cords, like nylon and sometimes Kevlar. Radial tires are made of rubber-coated reinforced-steel cable belts.

Each type of tire construction has its own unique set of characteristics, which play a part in its performance.

Sipes are the slots cut into the surface of the tire tread. The number of sipes and the way they are set in the tires is an important factor in the traction the tires get on muddy, snowy, wet or icy surfaces.

It is very important to be able to read the specs of a tire before buying it. The basic factors important while buying tires are tire type, tire width and aspect ratio of the height to the weight to the tire. Also, one should find out about the construction, wheel diameter, load index and speed rating of the tire.

The tires of an ATV are also the main culprit for the various criticisms against ATVs today. Along with taking a good grip on the path, the ATVs also dig channels that drain out boggy areas of water in forests, tear out fragile plants that are vital for the integrity of the sand dunes in deserts and beaches, and also destroy well-maintained snow trails in snow.

The Right ATV Trailer

!±8± The Right ATV Trailer

You got your new ATVs, now how do you get them out to the trails? You are going to haul them with your ATV trailer, of course. Now the only question is how do you find and use the right ATV trailer?

The size of the ATV trailer that you need will depend largely on how many ATVs you want to transport. Trailers range from sizes that can haul one or two ATVs to sizes that can haul six ATVs. Of course, if you only have one ATV to haul, and you own a pickup, you may only need a set of ramps and some tie downs. You will also want to consider what you are going to tow the ATVs with and make certain that vehicle can handle pulling a large load.

You will be able to find a wide variety of new ATV trailers at a variety of prices, but you also have the option to buy a used trailer. You can find used ATV trailers in your local newspaper classifieds or on the Internet. Before purchasing a used trailer, closely examine it to make sure that it is still in good working order.

You can also find plans to build your own ATV trailer on the web. Always use caution when making purchases on the web. Use reputable websites or websites recommended by friends. If the company is one that you have not heard of before, contact them. Talk to a company representative before you make your purchase. There are several different websites devoted to the do-it-yourself design and production of trailers.

Before using your ATV trailer, you will want to make sure that the tongue-mounting system is strong, sturdy, and reliable. Make sure it works without twisting, cracking, or bending. Pay special attention to the design of the main structural beams the axles are attached to. These beams have to bear the entire load of the trailer and may bend if they are not high quality. Also, the cross members should be strong and well-built. If not, they will twist and cause corner flex in the trailer's deck which will result in cracked welds. Always load and unload your ATVs with care. You do not want to risk damaging your quads or your trailer.

Correct use and correct towing will make or break your experience. When you are towing an ATV trailer behind you, no matter the size, always put safety first. Remember that the trailer will not stop as quickly as what your vehicle will brake. Speeding is never a good idea when hauling a trailer. As I noted, stopping is a little more difficult with a trailer, and it becomes much more difficult the faster you go. Also, the faster you go, the more sway the trailer will have.

You probably bought your ATVs to have an adventure, to get out there and explore places you have not been before. Hauling your quads and gear with an ATV trailer will make the trip easier and get you exploring that much faster!

How to extend the life of your ATV launch

!±8± How to extend the life of your ATV launch

ATV has two distinct features - sleek and attractive design, surprising speed. You are at the center of attention wherever they go and that was a once an admirer and a fan of ATVs. But a performance ATV goes hand in hand with their maintenance and repair. In this article we will turn our attention to boots ATV, the focus is an integral part of the machinery. ATV boots are elevated and negotiating help maneuverability in difficult terrain. Here we'll list a few tips, ATV owners to improve their lives.

• Clean the frame to be used

ATVs should be used offensively and uneven muddy terrain and desert. As a result, they tend to become very dirty. Many ATV owners tend to dirty their ATV as a sign to show that their system has been tested to the extreme tightness. The best practice would be to thoroughly clean and wash the chassis under the vehicle. ATV can handle the mud, but not unknownParticles that could get stuck in the mud can cause problems for the boots and the long term. The cleaning of the surface from the bottom ensures that this problem does not occur.

• Regular inspections promptly

This is true not only for the boots are specific ATV. The ATV whole must be carefully checked from time to time to ensure that all parties are working in optimal conditions. The ATV will begin to show signs of wear over time, especially the trunk of the ATV. ManualThe inspection of the underside of the box will require all parties that require immediate attention and the owner can save on costly repairs in the long run.

• Avoid General ATV Boots

Original parts are expensive, but they are hard and durable. They also carry the manufacturer's warranty, and can be replaced if the product did not meet their expectations. ATV Boots are no different. We recommend using only parts of the ATV manufacturer is recommended. True thatIn fact, generics are significantly cheaper, but their quality is also much lower and are much more prone to wear than the original.

• Look at the signs of disturbance

Boots ATV show obvious signs of malfunction. Users should seek the maximum and lead to an immediate recognition. In most cases, the trunk of an ATV can be repaired if the fault symptoms are caught early and the damage is not difficult. Ignorebrings all these characters, the ATV and the user at risk, as the ATV-type of boat that could finally pull off the ATV and joints break.

As a general rule, an adequate inspection and maintenance is a surefire way to extend the life of an ATV-boat. ATVs are expensive repairs. A little 'preventive maintenance goes a long way to renew your rig.
